CLA Update: Spinal Adjustments Are Beneficial for Neck Pain

November 28, 2014

spinal adjustmentsIn an extensive literature review conducted and compiled in a report published by the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics (JMPT), spinal adjustments for neck pain proved to be beneficial. The review focused on patients suffering from chronic neck pain lasting for more than eight weeks. Not included were patients who had acute pain, headaches or whiplash injuries.

Spinal adjustments may include mobilization of the vertebrae in the neck. When you have subluxations, targeted adjustments will allow your vertebrae to move more freely while restoring range of motion, which is usually limited for patients with chronic neck pain. This re-alignment of the vertebrae also helps relieve nerve interference by opening up vital communication pathways between your brain and body, resulting in a reduction of pain.

The doctors conducting this literary review found that all patients who had undergone mobilization techniques by their chiropractors experienced improved conditions with many of them still enjoying positive results as many as 12 weeks after the adjustments were performed. Even more incredibly, patients experienced pain relief from their first adjustment with many experiencing full recovery from their conditions within six to seven weeks of chiropractic care!

It’s also important to note from this literary review that there were no reports of serious negative effects from any of the patients who underwent chiropractic care for their neck pain. Considering the high success rate, this is yet another important study proving that a conservative approach to neck pain might be a better solution than other possibly harmful approaches.
